Ahh the 90’s. Possibly the last great and balanced era in hip hop. Around 94-95 I discovered the sounds of Big Pun. Upon first hearing him on Fat Joes joint “Firewater” I knew this dude was something special on the mic.

A few years go by and he pops up on a few more joints but this is the first time I heard him and said OH SH#T!

His debut album “Capital Punishment” was one of the most well balanced albums released in a long time. He had records for the street, chick records and a amazing sense of humor. see Packinamac skit on Capital Punishment. Most amazingly was Puns wordplay and once seemingly unhuman-like breath control.

Puns second album in my opinion, was just as dope as the first.

Towards the end of his life Pun was working on losing weight and getting healthy but unfortunately it was too little too late. What he did leave behind was 3 albums worth of great music and tons of features. If you get a second, check for these 3 albums. You will be musically richer because of it.
