“Shutter Island” (R)

–Leonardo DiCaprio and Mark Ruffalo play U.S. marshals trapped on a remote island during a hurricane while investigating the disappearance of a patient from a hospital for the criminally insane.

–Ben Kingsley is the doctor in charge, Emily Mortimer is the escaped patient and Michelle Williams plays Leonardo’s wife.  It’s directed by Martin Scorsese, who also worked with DiCaprio in “The Departed”, “The Aviator”, and “Gangs of New York”.

“The Ghost Writer” (PG-13) (New York and L.A.)

–After Ewan McGregor accepts a job ghostwriting the memoirs of a former British Prime Minister, he finds out the guy is a suspected war criminal . . . and that the murder of the original ghostwriter was covered up to look like a suicide.

–It’s directed by Roman Polanski, and stars Pierce Brosnan as the politician, “Dollhouse’s” Olivia Williams as his wife, and Kim Cattrall as his chief of staff.
