DMX was arrested earlier today in Arizona — and now his lawyer is reaching out to the one man who he believes can save him … Dr. Drew Pinsky.

The details of the arrest are unclear — but the rapper’s lawyer Gary Jenkins tells us “He’s been battling addiction for some time and he’s in need of treatment.”

Jenkins also tells us, “We’re hoping that maybe Dr. Drew might be able to help him.”

DMX — aka Earl Simmons — was arrested a bazillion times over the last two years for all sorts of reasons … including drug charges.

Jenkins added, “He’s a talented man … we’re praying for him.”

UPDATE: We’ve just obtained DMX’s mug shot … and it’s got to be one of the saddest we’ve ever seen.

We’ve also learned more details of DMX’s arrest. We’re told he allegedly violated the terms of his probation by using illegal drugs over the last nine months.

After a month . . . and three postponements . . . LIL WAYNE was finally sentenced yesterday.  And as expected, he began serving his time immediately.

 –In October, Wayne pleaded guilty to criminal possession of a loaded gun.  He will be serving one year behind bars . . . although with good behavior, that could be reduced to around eight months.

 (–In this case, New York City cops found the gun after boarding his tour bus after a concert back in July of 2007.  Wayne is also facing a similar charge in Arizona, which has yet to be resolved.)

 –Lil Wayne did not make a statement in court . . . however his lawyers were able to convince the judge to have him placed in protective custody while in the clink . . . and to provide him with special medical attention for all his dental problems.

–He will serve his sentence in the Rikers Island jail complex.

 –On Monday morning, Wayne posted a message on his new Twitter account saying, quote, “Law is mind without reason . . . I’ll return.” 

 LIL WAYNE going to prison for a year is clearly one of the DEFINING MOMENTS of our time . . . so it isn’t surprising that everyone has something to say about it.

 –Here’s what some of Wayne’s peers had to say about this travesty . . .

–YOUNG JEEZY:  “It’s just an eye-opener to all of us.  Instead of targeting the hustlers and the people trying to make it in the streets, now that the streets is dried up, now [the police] are targeting the entertainers and the athletes, what have you.

 –”Real talk, not trying to preach to the choir, we gotta be careful out here.  What I mean to my culture is more than me proving a point.”  (???) 

–DIDDY:  “The beauty about it is, he’ll be back, and hopefully he’ll come back a better person.  Whenever we get in trouble, we’re in the public spotlight.

–”So hopefully there’s a lot of kids out there who could learn from any mistakes that we may have put ourselves in, even if we’re not guilty of the crime sometimes. 

 –”We are human.  People have to learn:  ‘Make sure you know where you’re going, who you riding with, what the situation is.’  We’re targets.  I’m just happy he doesn’t have to do a lot of time.”

–LLOYD BANKS:  “It’s evident that nobody’s safe.  That’s reality.  People make mistakes, have poor judgments sometimes, and things happen.  It’s something that’s always been around.  We been talking about [rappers going to jail] since Tupac.”

–LEBRON JAMES:  “[The game] is definitely gonna miss him.  I think we all love his inspiration behind his music, how much time he puts into his music.  The game will miss him, but we’ll be waiting for him when he gets back.”

–THE GAME: “It’s (effed) up.  I don’t like it all.  I don’t have one good feeling about it.  I don’t like to see that.  I like for my (N-words) that co-exist with me in hip-hop to win . . . that (crap) is wack.”

–But wait.  Somewhat surprisingly, Game added, quote, “As (N-words) is approaching their 30s, the end of their 30s, and becoming hip-hop veterans and legends, we gotta become a little more wise.  Everybody makes mistakes.

–”I’m pretty sure at this point, Wayne is kicking himself in the ass for the (crap) he did.  But (N-words) is fathers, (N-words) is growing.  With age comes wisdom, man.  We’ll learn and we’ll get it all together.  As long as we stay together, we’ll be straight.”

–“Precious” – Oscar-loser Gabourey Sidibe plays a pregnant 16-year-old who’s abused at home and failing in school.  Oscar-winner Mo’Nique plays her vicious mom, and Razzie-winner Mariah Carey plays a social worker who helps her.

–“Up in the Air” – George Clooney is a corporate downsizer who’s lived on the road for so long that he’s almost earned his lifetime goal of 10 million frequent flyer miles.  But just when he falls in love with another traveler, his company’s new efficiency expert threatens to cut off his travel budget. 

–The expert is played by Anna Kendrick . . . who “Twilight” fans would recognize as Bella’s friend Jessica.  Jason Bateman is also in it as Clooney’s boss. (–It lost for Best Picture.  Both Anna and George got Oscar nods . . . but they didn’t win any awards either.)

–“The Boondock Saints 2:  All Saints Day” – Sean Patrick Flannery and Norman Reedus return as the McManus brothers, who went on a killing spree to rid Boston of the mafia after getting a vision from God.  Billy Connolly also returns as their hitman father . . . and Judd Nelson is a mob boss looking for revenge.

–“Old Dogs” – Robin Williams discovers he’s the father of 7-year-old twins, so he asks his womanizing best friend to help him take care of them.  John Travolta plays his friend and Travolta’s wife Kelly Preston plays the mother of the twins.

–“Planet 51″ – Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is an astronaut who lands on a planet of little green suburban families, who are terrified that he’s an alien invader.  Jessica Biel and Justin Long play two alien teens helping him get back to his ship.
