R.I.P GURU

Krackblog.com is sad to report that legendary MC , pioneer and Gangstarr founder Guru (Real name Keith Elam) has succumbed to cancer. For those who don’t know the backstory, Guru and former collaborator DJ Premier were a driving force in bridging the worlds of hip hop and jazz in the late 80’s and 90’s. They crafted 6 classic albums together and Guru treated listeners to 4 cutting edge Jazzmatazz albums. Guru has been sick for quite some time and has managed to keep his illness a secret from his family and fans. There has been a lot of controversy surrounding Guru’s illness and his business relationship with his partner Solar. Solar has expressed sadness over Guru’s passing.
“The world has lost one of the best MCs and Hip-Hop icons of all-time — my loyal best friend, partner, and brother, Guru,” Solar said in a statement. “Guru has been battling cancer for well over a year and has lost his battle! This is a matter that Guru wanted private until he could beat it, but tragically, this did not happen. The cancer took him. Now the world has lost a great man and a true genius.”
Expecting the worst, Guru has left a letter for his fans with some harsh words for his former partner Dj Premier
I, Guru, am writing this letter to my fans, friends and loved ones around the world. I have had a long battle with cancer and have succumbed to the disease. I have suffered with this illness for over a year. I have exhausted all medical options.
I have a non-profit organization called Each One Counts dedicated to carrying on my charitable work on behalf of abused and disadvantaged children from around the world and also to educate and research a cure for this terrible disease that took my life. I write this with tears in my eyes, not of sorrow but of joy for what a wonderful life I have enjoyed and how many great people I have had the pleasure of meeting.
My loyal best friend, partner and brother, Solar, has been at my side through it all and has been made my health proxy by myself on all matters relating to myself. He has been with me by my side on my many hospital stays, operations, doctors visits and stayed with me at my home and cared for me when I could not care for myself. Solar and his family is my family and I love them dearly and I expect my family, friends, and fans to respect that, regardless to anybody’s feelings on the matter. It is my wish that counts. This being said I am survived by the love of my life, my sun KC, who I trust will be looked after by Solar and his family as their own. Any awards or tributes should be accepted, organized approved by Solar on behalf myself and my son until he is of age to except on his own.
I do not wish my ex-DJ to have anything to do with my name likeness, events tributes etc. connected in anyway to my situation including any use of my name or circumstance for any reason and I have instructed my lawyers to enforce this. I had nothing to do with him in life for over 7 years and want nothing to do with him in death. Solar has my life story and is well informed on my family situation, as well as the real reason for separating from my ex-DJ. As the sole founder of GangStarr, I am very proud of what GangStarr has meant to the music world and fans. I equally am proud of my Jazzmatazz series and as the father of Hip-Hop/Jazz. I am most proud of my leadership and pioneering efforts on Jazzmatazz 4 for reinvigorating the Hip-Hop/Jazz genre in a time when music quality has reached an all time low. Solar and I have toured in places that I have never been before with GangStarr or Jazzmatatazz and we gained a reputation for being the best on the planet at Hip-Hop/Jazz, as well as the biggest and most influential Hip-Hop/Jazz record with Jazzmatazz 4 of the decade to now. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time. And we as a team were not afraid to push the envelope. To me this is what true artists do! As men of honor we stood tall in the face of small mindedness, greed, and ignorance. As we fought for music and integrity at the cost of not earning millions and for this I will always be happy and proud, and would like to thank the million fans who have seen us perform over the years from all over the world. The work I have done with Solar represents a legacy far beyond its time and is my most creative and experimental to date. I hope that our music will receive the attention it deserves as it is some of the best work I have done and represents some of the best years of my life.

OH SNAP: R.I.P MALCOLM McLAREN (BUFFALO GALS)

Malcolm McLaren, the British former manager and the self-proclaimed mastermind behind iconic punk band the Sex Pistols, has died from cancer at a hospital in Switzerland, his girlfriend said. He was 64.
“He passed away at a hospital in Switzerland where he was being treated for cancer,” said Young Kim.
McLaren, the ex-partner of designer Vivienne Westwood, had been suffering from cancer for some time.
The London-born impresario and promoter assembled the Sex Pistols and managed them in the mid-1970s, a period that produced the groundbreaking singles “Anarchy in the U.K.” and “God Save the Queen.”
Kim told Reuters McLaren had traveled to New York in February for the launch of an art book before returning to Switzerland to be treated at a clinic. He died of a rare form of cancer called mesothelioma.
I’m not gonna sit here and front like I knew all of this cats music. I did a lot of research today and found out that Malcolm was behind I alot of records and samples I grew up on a youth. For example
Who knew! The song that he will possibly most be remembered for is Buffao Gals
Rest in peace to a PIONEER a VISIONARY, and a silent ARCHITECT of the sonic culture of HIP-HOP!
BIG-L REST IN PEACE (FREE DOWNLOAD)
Lamont Coleman was born May 30, 1974 in New York City, and grew up in uptown Harlem which he references regularly in his lyrics (139th Street & Lennox Avenue).[2] Big L began rhyming in 1990 and his first professional appearance came on the B-side of “Party Over Here” by Lord Finesse in 1992, the song was the remix to “Yes, You May”. Around this time, L founded the Harlem-based rap group Children of the Corn with fellow aspiring MC’s Killa Cam, Murda Mase and Killa Cam’s cousin Bloodshed while Darrell “Digga” Branch provided production. Unfortunately the group folded in 1996 when Bloodshed died in a car accident.[3] In 1993 L was signed to Columbia Records and released his first single “Devil’s Son”. Big L’s debut solo album, Lifestylez ov da Poor & Dangerous, was released in March 1995. The album featured guest appearances from a number of artists, notably Kid Capri, Lord Finesse, and then-unknown Cam’ron and Jay-Z. Two singles, “M.V.P” and “Put It On”, were released from the album, both of which reached the top twenty-five of Billboard’s Hot Rap Tracks. The album itself also reached the Billboard200, but due to its poor commercial status Big L was dropped from Columbia Records.
From 1997 to ‘99, Big L worked on his second album The Big Picture through his own Flamboyant Entertainment label. He released the acclaimed single “Ebonics” in 1998; that same year, he joined Bronx-based hip hop collective Diggin’ in the Crates Crew and appeared on their first single “Dignified Soldiers”. The Big Picturewas released posthumously in August 2000 and featured guest appearances by Fat Joe, Guru of Gang Starr, Kool G Rap, and Big Daddy Kane among others. Jay-Z has said that Big L was set to sign with hisRoc-A-Fella label, but was murdered the week before.[4] The Big Picture was Big L’s last recorded album. It was put together by his manager and partner in Flamboyant Entertainment, Rich King. It contains songs that L had recorded and a cappella recordings that were never used, completed by producers and guest MC’s that Big L respected or had worked with previously. The album was certified gold a month later.
Coleman was killed in the neighborhood of Harlem on February 15, 1999 after being shot over 9 times in the face and chest.[3] Virgilio Perez, one of Big L’s childhood friends, was arrested in May 1999 for the crime. At the time of his death, Coleman had two brothers in prison. “It’s a good possibility it was retaliation for something [Big L's] brother did, or [Perez] believed he had done,” said a spokesperson for the NYPD.[5] Perez was later released and the murder case remains unsolved.[6]
Big L’s half-brother Leroy Phinazee aka “Big Lee” was murdered in the same neighborhood in 2002; in the time leading up to his death, Phinazee had apparently been in search of information regarding Big L’s murder.[3]
Gang Starr released the song “Full Clip” as a tribute to Big L on their 1999 compilation album Full Clip: A Decade of Gang Starr, and more recently on a SiriusXM satellite radio show.

R.I.P BRITTANY MURPHY

Brittany Murphy died early this morning after she went into full cardiac arrest and could not be revived, multiple sources tell TMZ.
She was 32.
A 911 call was made at 8:00 AM from a home in Los Angeles that is listed as belonging to her husband, Simon Monjack, the Los Angeles City Fire Department tells TMZ.
We’re told Murphy was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Murphy starred in such films as “Clueless,” “8 Mile,” and “Don’t Say a Word.”
Story developing …
Earlier in her career, Murphy was accused of having an eating disorder which some believed was tied to a cocaine habit. In 2005 she denied the allegations, saying:
“Wow. No, just for the record I have never tried it in my entire life, I’ve never even seen it, and I don’t leave the house too much, except to go to work,” she said. “My worst vice is caffeine. [The rumor is] really pretty darn far-fetched — it couldn’t be further from the truth. I have known people over the course of my life that have bad problems with drugs, and it’s something really serious.”
A couple of weeks ago SNL mocked Brittany in a Weekend Update sketch. Pretty crazy timing.

WRESTLING HEADS: R.I.P UMAGA (FATU) + DEAD WRESTLER LIST

The wrestling community is reeling today after news that WWE superstar Edward “Umaga” Fatu has died.
The former wrestler, known to fans as Umaga, died Friday after suffering a heart attack, CNN reports. The 36-year-old’s wife reportedly found him unconscious with blood coming out of his nose. He was rushed to a hospital in Houston, Tx, but was pronounced dead at around 6:00 pm EST.
In 2007, The News reported that Fatu was one of many superstars who bought prescription drugs from an online pharmacy, which violated the same WWE “Talent Wellness” program. The wrestler had purchased a growth hormone called somatropin in the months following a WWE rule was instituted stating no drugs from online sources.
Fatu was the cousin of Dwayne Johnson, aka The Rock, and a member of the Anoa’I wrestling family. He was nicknamed the Samoan Bulldozer for his powerful technique and won the WWE Intercontinental title two times. But despite his stellar performances, Umaga was fired by the WWE this summer for once again violating the Wellness Program by not entering rehab.
On its official website, the WWE expressed “its deepest condolences to Mr. Fatu’s family, friends and fans on his tragic passing.”
Fatu had just completed a wrestling tour of Australia alongside WWE legend Hulk Hogan when he passed away.
